West Sicily
Pervaded by a deep sense of the past, the western part of the island is the most Arabian in terms of lifestyle, atmosphere and flavors. The proposed itinerary alternates cultural visits with interesting activities suitable for families .
After leaving Palermo you can stop in the pretty and tiny Scopello , just outside the Zingaro Nature Reserve , an ideal area for hiking and scuba diving. Visit the suggestive temple of Segesta along the stretch towards Trapani , from where you can make numerous and interesting day trips. Spend at least one night in the splendid medieval setting of Erice , a charming town especially in the evening.
Be sure to visit Mozia , the most important Phoenician site in the region. Alternatively you can go to the Egadi Islands , to be explored by bicycle or by boat, in particular an interesting visit could be Pantelleria , reachable from Trapani either by ferry or by hydrofoil.
From Trapani the coastal road continues sinuously to the pretty Marsala . In this town do not miss the suggestive Carthaginian warship , partially reconstructed, kept in the Baglio Anselmi Regional Archaeological Museum and the tasting of excellent wines at the Florio Cellars. From Marsala continue to Mazara del Vallo , where the interesting Museum of the Satyr awaits you.
Finish the itinerary by visiting the fantastic ruins of Selinunte , which dominate one of the most beautiful beaches on the island from above.
